Project 2 Year 3 Sketchbook page 23 – exploring ideas at the project start – candy.

After meeting with Simply Candy, vegan sweet company owner to discuss his packaging.

I took it upon myself to explore the possibilities of a chewy sweet for the vegan market, this was a result of a divergent conversation when discussing his customer market needs.

The ingredients where a natural evolution from the edible polymer I had designed. I replaced the water with fruit smoothie.

I started this project knowing i would have to bench it, and come back to it post studies, however, I’ve found that doing some quick initial exploratory modelling works for me. It’s like making a list when i post my thoughts to instergram, it frees my mind and i get initial feedback through likes, this enables me to scan back through projects in the future and to concentrate on the to do right now.

I’m looking forward to working with Erick again to finalize his packaging and new sweet range.

Using google to search for images to give me ideas and mock-up quick graphics

Through research I found a link to the sweets been popular with patients in hospital

I like the I-pad for drawing graphics, however I’m looking forward to working at a desktop with a Wacom stylus. I first saw this set up during my internship at Hurricane.  This way of working is more fluide because one can work directly in the adobe suite.

Using exciting packaging in my home to explore ideas, i like the idea of tins as the packaging can easily be reused and recycled, reducing plastic packaging.

I really like the simplicity of the graphics too.

Erick would like to have transparent window (polymer) because he thinks this is consumer demand led.

Future research will prove this idea.

Graphics by me showing sweets with and without windows.
