Trash Free Trails Have Done it! – SoOT

Braichmelyn & Ogwen River Bank Trail Clean | Halloween Trail Clean

From the moment Trash Free Trails began in 2013, they made a promise… to be led by, and collect robust scientific evidence.

This Saturday not only marked the winter Equinox; a time of ending and new beginning!

Very fitting for cleaning up trash at the end of its life, and then offering new beginnings through waste collection and recycling.

Saturday marked the start of SoOT – report project

What TFT didn’t know back in 2013, due to an almost complete lack of science on the impacts of single-use packaging on terrestrial ecosystems. The surprising realization led TFT to establish the State of Our Trails (SoOT)  Report project.

Working in partnership with Bangor University, the SoOT Report will be TFT ‘hub’ project until 2030, acting much like its cycling namesake it will be fuelled and driven with citizen science data gathered during our people-powered projects throughout each year. Then, the careful analysis of this data enables us to create an evidence-based plan for our next cycle of projects.

Trash Free Trails is leading the way through understanding’ why’, led by scientific data collection, to then lead behavior change through fun collaborative hubs, fun group clean-ups, and education [ that is also fun.

I had a super day out in Wales on Saturday, not only was I part of a dynamic group of four individuals, whose conversation was my kind of chat, Bertie the spaniel was in his element in the woods… we even saw a red squirrel.

We contributed to collecting 1425 pieces of litter.

Can’t wait till the next group Trash Free Trails clean-up – https://www.trashfreetrails.org/clean-trails
