The images below show my annotation of materials and using silicone sheets to prevent sticking to the mold.

The mold didn’t work, however the change of recipe did carry forward to future designs. The glossy polymer like finish was what I was looking for.

The black colour was chosen because food looks good in black, this is why current trays are black even though it renders them un-recyclable, the NLP infra red lasers used at recycling waste plants can’t see the black colour.

My tray doesn’t need to be sorted because it’s designed for home compost or black bin waste to be incinerated, producing energy as an SRF biofuel, or in the future as compostable in AD process.

Consumers are used to identifying Black packaging with black bin waste, this is why I chose black food colouring to add to the try design.

I didn’t annotate with other food colours as to buy the colour from the super market is £1.20 a tube, however this product colour cost wouldn’t be reflected in the end cost of manufacture, as the supermarkets just add a huge mark up on the retail price it’s not a cost of manufacture price.

I chose food colour as the product for the through colour design as it is guaranteed to be food safe for the consumer, I dont’ want to poison anyone during testing of the product.
