Project 2 Year 3 Sketchbook page 37 – 3D sketch for smart clothing

These sketch pad doodles are annotating ways to make a pattern for the smart sock design.

I really like the idea of a sock that fits my foot perfectly, stopping my foot wear from feeling uncomfortable, this is what happens when the material of a standard sock bunches inside my shoe.

After watching military clothing smart wear of the future ted talk, the designers, three dimensionally modelled the clothes using the wearer as the block. They imported the 3D image of the person and then by off-setting a plane they could draw the sketch and then export the design out from fusion 360, into Rhino were the design could be flattened into a surface pattern. Very exiting stuff, way beyond my capabilities at this stage but I think I could mange a foot.

I thought about what materials I would use, I like natural fabrics, however polymer based fabrics are very popular. Unfortunately by recycling bottles into textiles, there is another issue caused… micro plastics. I would help minimise the issue by including a micro plastic catching net in with the purchase of the sportswear.

I didn’t pursue this project as the technology is already been developed. Link #lovelinedinblogs
