A trip up Skiddaw in the Lake District reminded me of the importance of designing for the worst outcome when considering packaging design. Whilst walking in the Lake district our path was well-marked by snack wrappers (yes we picked them up)

Yes, designing packaging materials and packaging to be recycled is obvious, however, additionally, I think designers could design considering the possibilities of consumers dropping packaging and littering.

A shift to home compostable wrappers would safeguard animals who pick up and eat wrappers, keep our green and urban spaces cleaner. Also, many wrappers can’t be recycled because the size of the wrapper is too small for current recycling systems to sort.

Therefore a shift to renewable compostable is appropriate for small food contact packaging like energy bars and chocolate.

I really like using my waxed reusable cloth when outdoors.
