project 2 year 3 Day one sketch book

Project start: This project is completely self-directed which I like because it gives me the freedom to develop a project that has value and purpose.
(Take the time to look at my previous blog posts and you will see an interest in sustainable materials, related to packaging design.)
Initially, I wanted to give myself a brief that stepped away from solving global issues using packaging as a vehicle and focus on developing ideas using technology in textiles to prevent injury during sports activity as one of my passions is outdoor activities such as cycling and running.

Initially I thought it would be cool to have personalised sketch books bespoke to the project.

During a tutorial my lecturer Robin Brinkworth discouraged the use of university materials in this way, and encouraged that I purchase sketch books from a shop.

I took this advice on board: although I always carry a sketch book to jot down my thoughts and ideas, I have found that a paper sketch book works perfectly for my personal scribbles, however for the university marking prosses of the who, what, why, an online diary where I can annotate my photographed model making and screen shots is a sustainable solution that I can easily update. Also I can use technology to help with spelling and grammar. I am embarrassed by the written symptoms of dyslexia, modern technology helps me to structure, and correctly spell, helpful when wanting to describe a design idea.

Considering pattern making.Design in Fusion 3D, using a 3D model of a foot, using offset to draw my sock then exporting out into Rino software to flatten the design. This is new innovative technology for clothing design. It’s borrowed from military wear and high end cars.

The fabric will be natural, renewable, Sustainable, considering water usage and chemicals. The fabric will naturally be positive for the skin the body’s largest organ. Currently used technical fabric is polymer. When the body gets hot, the skin absorbs the chemicals from the fabric. Research states that this is potentially cancer forming. https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-09/documents/acrylonitrile.pdf

Quick and dirty sketch showing the layers of the sock. The wind shield under the toes and ball of the foot. Modern cycling shoes often have air vents there great on the continent not so great anytime of year in the U.k or in cooler climates.

Starting to think about existing technology – DuPont Intexar a fabric that holds conducting fibre woven into the fabric

A bag design to collect micro fibre during machine washing

This I a design to solve micro plastics in our oceans, great 💡 so good its been done. Next idea needs to solve issues of micro plastics in our urine, which makes a journey to our oceans and fresh water supplies.
