Project 2 Year 3 Sketchbook page 81 – tray modeling from tray components.

Making a tray using flat-surface design.

The material was almost right, black and glossy, in desperation I tried making a tray from components. Part of my thought process was the consideration of future product uses. I have been receiving help from David at UnU children’s playful educational resource. I was using the opportunity of tray design to experiment with flat surface.

The Tray didn’t work, the polymer struggles to stay in a uniform shape it warps during the drying process. It needs a rigid surface to dehydrate against.

This knowledge led to the final solution design, using a plastic tray as the mold.
